Metal Gear Solid Remake: 10 Things That Must Remain Untouched
5. Gray Fox
Gray Fox's story actually originates in the original Metal Gear series. A comrade-in-arms and friend to Solid Snake during the MSX2 games, Gray Fox's loyalty to Big Boss saw the two friends pitted in combat against each other in Metal Gear 2. After this fight, Gray Fox was forcibly fitted with a powerful exoskeleton and returned in Metal Gear Solid as a neutral force, intent on facing Snake in combat one last time. His wishes come true; he and Snake face off in Ocelot's lab while the scientist famously cowers in a locker. Over the course of the game, he also cuts off Ocelot's hand; assists Snake over Codec via the pseudonym Deepthroat; and helps Snake defeat Metal Gear RAY. Unfortunately, he also meets his end here; though, in keeping with the rest of his appearances, it's memorably stylish. After being pinned against the wall by RAY, Gray Fox blinds Liquid and forces him to open the cockpit, making him vulnerable. His declaration at this point -"a cornered fox is more dangerous than a jackal!" - is one of the series' greatest lines. Following this, in the most moving scene in the game, Fox is crushed under RAY's foot and delivers an impassioned speech to Snake about being a mercenary before Liquid delivers a final blow with RAY's foot to end the only man considered worthy of the codename Fox. Gray Fox, as a character, is almost as essential to Metal Gear Solid as Solid Snake is. If the game is to be remade, his role needs to be unchanged; everything about it suits the game perfectly.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
