Metal Gear Solid 'Remake' Running On Unreal Engine 4 Looks Phenomenal
Fan rebuilds Shadow Moses' opening levels to showcase what a full remaster might look like.
The ongoing decision to churn out remasters, remakes, 'definitive editions' (and one 'Deathinitive Edition') over focussing on newer titles continues to divide fans right down the middle, but one that everybody would play through if it was given a suitable lick of paint, is the first Metal Gear Solid on PS1. Forget the Gamecube-only Twin Snakes and its butchering of not only the original voice performances (yes they were by the same cast, but you could tell they weren't into it) and its terrible reworking of the cutscenes to look like a Dragon Ball Z episode, genius coding-whizz Airam Hernandez has been hard at work polishing off his own fan remake of the first game done right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwdyB0c5VPc The level pack is free as "a tribute to MGS, Kojima and Konami" (states the in-game text) and actually takes on a slightly P.T.-like vibe as you explore the original cave-like starting area, tank hangar (complete with side rooms, tribute shelf to MGS and hidden exclamation mark for where the surveillance camera used to detect you). As of time of writing, you can download the remastered levels yourself over here, but don't rely on that link staying up too long if Konami decide to clamp down on it. For now though, just imagine what the future could hold for proper remasters of Metal Gear Solid, as all of this was done in less than a month by one person.
