Metal Gear Solid V: 11 Hidden Secrets You Totally Missed
6. David Bowie's Many References
The immortal David Bowie sadly passed away in January 2016, but his last 'appearance' (of sorts) will forever be inside MGS V. Firstly, the name 'Diamond Dogs' that Miller gives to his band of soldiers comes from Bowie's eighth album of the same name. Second, the track, 'The Man Who Sold The World' appeared on another of Bowie's albums, and is both part of the MGS V soundtrack, as well as prominently featuring lyrics alluding to secrets, identities and duality - key themes that play out across the close of the game. Lastly, as Kojima was such a fan of all things Bowie, his influence is felt across some older games in the series, too. MGS 2's Raiden has a fairly androgynous appearance which was confirmed to be inspired by Bowie in the game's official novelisation, whereas MGS 3 has Major Zero call himself 'Major Tom' as a nod to the songs, Space Oddity and Ashes to Ashes.
