Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - 6 Things We Learned From Gamescom 2015

2. You Can Use Cardboard Boxes To Fast-Travel Around Your Base

In a comedic nod to previous games in the series, cardboard boxes will play a crucial role in The Phantom Pain, namely as fast-travel devices. Make sense? This is Metal Gear Solid, so of course it doesn't. As you expand Mother Base, it will eventually reach a size which will make travelling from one end to the other quite a trek. One way to tackle this is by driving around your base in a vehicle or by helicopter, but it's much faster to post yourself using the base's internal cargo delivery service. Simply find a cardboard box sitting at one of the base's loading zones, get inside it, then select a delivery point on the map that pops up. The screen goes black, the sound of a truck engine fades out, fades back in, and you're at your destination. The perks of cardboard boxes in MGS truly know no end.
