Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - 6 Things We Learned From Gamescom 2015

1. It's Up To You To Keep Morale Up At Mother Base

As you wander around Mother Base, it'll also be your job to ensure that the morale of the Diamond Dogs (the private miltary group led by Snake/Big Boss) is kept high. This can be achieved by small actions such as interacting with soldiers around the base and saluting them, or more serious interventions such as breaking up fights that start between soldiers. During the trailer as the narrator talks about the morale aspect of Phantom Pain, we see scraps between soldiers, a first-person shot of the player surrounded by soldiers screaming for you to "kill that son-of-a-bitch", and a couple of clips of the lewd female soldier, Quiet, kicking ass and then getting tortured. What does this all mean, and how does it relate to morale mechanic in the game? We've heard that Quiet's presence at Mother Base is detrimental to troop morale, because of her status as a former enemy of the Diamond Dogs. It's quite possible that it'll be your job to prevent her from wreaking havoc at the base. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is launching on 1st September, and I'm tipping it as a frontrunner for Game of the Year. Do you think it'll be able to get over its barricade of development obstacles and live up to the hype?
