What's perhaps most interesting about Metal Gear Survive is that it's actually is a full-on survival game. I know being surprised at that might seem a bit weird considering, you know, it's literally the title, but many people assumed this would simply be a basic copy and paste job of MGS V.

Instead, the devs have actually included a rather robust (and demanding) stealth system that differentiates this title from the ones it will inevitably be compared to. The addition of features like a stamina meter alone makes combat a more nuanced and challenging affair, and it's clear that the title has taken more than a few cues from the survival horror genre.

These elements are hardly unique though, and it's hard to shake the fact that the game has adopted survival mechanics not because it can innovate on them, but because they're in-vogue. These types of experiences are theoretically what keep players around (and paying money) well after release, but it sounds as though Survive hasn't put the effort into make these systems compelling or different enough to entice players to stick around for long periods of time.
