Metroid: 25 Greatest Boss Fights RANKED

In Super Metroid's climax, Samus squares off against the Space Pirates' leader, Mother Brain. You need to balance on a tiny platform, avoiding the lava below and the droids attacking you while launching missiles at the biological computer. At first, the showdown seems pretty much the same as the final boss of the original Metroid.

But when Mother Brain appears to die, she rises up in a newly formed bipedal body and launches a merciless attack on the bounty hunter. After you've used every projectile on each other, Mother Brain will end the conflict by blasting you with an undodgeable Hyper Beam.

Just as she's about to finish you off, the Metroid who imprinted on you earlier appears, shielding Samus. Before Mother Brain kills the creature, the Metroid redistributes the Hyper Beam energy into Samus, making her immensely powerful. Blasting Mother Beam with her newfound power, Samus finally defeats her greatest enemy.

The battle itself may not be too hard but it stands out since it's so personal. Even though this creature is a blight on the galaxy, the fact that Mother Brain's forces murdered Samus' parents and personally killed her Metroid "child" makes this fight resonates with the player on an emotional level.

Even though some bosses were harder or more epic, the battle with Mother Brain is the one that Metroid fans will never forget.
