Metroid: Every Main Series Game Ranked Worst To Best
8. Metroid: Other M
Criticised for its overwrought (and terribly acted) cutscenes, its awkwardly contrived linear progression, and its absolutely ludicrous idea to map 3D movement to a D-pad for the sheer sake of nostalgia, Metroid: Other M isn't half bad, an entertaining Wii shooter once you look past all its (glaring) issues. It just doesn't really feel like a Metroid game.
Like its contemporary The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Metroid: Other M opted to steer its franchise into more overtly cinematic territory, losing the free-form exploratory aspects that made the previous entries into the series so fun to begin with.
While the story is needlessly clunky and imposes a little too much on gameplay, and the game's first-person aspects are severely under-utilised, Other M is a pretty entertaining shake-up to the formula, though all its criticisms are perfectly valid.
