Metroid: Every Main Series Game Ranked Worst To Best
7. Metroid: Fusion
Another game initially criticised for its relative linearity, Metroid Fusion - released alongside its GameCube big brother Metroid Prime - was the first 2D Metroid game in eight years, and sought to capitalise on the success of its predecessor Super Metroid.
While Fusion retains many of the gameplay aspects of the more famous third game in the franchise, like the Return Of Samus before it, hardware restrictions necessitated a more linear experience. Gone was the overarching inter-connected map of yore, in favour of separate map departments with few links between them.
An entertaining ride from start to finish (with the SA-X sections being a particular highlight), Metroid Fusion just doesn't add enough to the franchise to warrant too much revisiting. An obvious attempt to imitate Super Metroid, Fusion wasn't a bad game, but one which ultimately suffered thanks to the success of the contemporaneous blockbuster, Metroid Prime.
