Monster Hunter World: Ranking Every Weapon From Worst To Best
6. Heavy Bowgun
Pros: High damage/ammo capacity, long range, able to block
Cons: Slow fire rate and movement, material-hungry ammo types
Capcom may have given the Bowgun's (heavy and light) Slicing Ammo a hefty whack with the nerf bat, but that hasn't put a damper on either's ability to decimate the battlefield with hot lead.
Between the two of them, it's the Light version that comes out on top (for reasons we'll get into later), but the heavy-duty variation is still a solid pick, not least for its claim to fame as the only ranged option that's able to block incoming attacks.
Despite its exceptional range (Sniper Shot is amazing) the defensive trait is a necessary one, given that cramming additional ammo into the chamber takes an age and leaves wielders wide open to attack. The same sluggish response time goes for movement, too, so timing is everything when performing critical actions, especially if there are no teammates on hand to defend you during downtime.
Play to the weapon's strengths as a heavy-hitting ranged support able to spam artillery bombardments from afar, and even Bazelgeuse's carpet bombing runs won't match up to its damage output.
