Mortal Kombat 1: Every Character Ranked Worst To Best

18. Kung Lao

Kung Lao purists will be happy to learn the razor-hatted monk is the first kombatant they get their hands on in Mortal Kombat 1's Story Mode. As such, you'd expect the narrative had some big plans in store.

Surprisingly, Kung Lao checks out of the plot so early, he becomes forgettable. Of course, die-hards shouldn't care, so long as the Oddjob wannabe plays well.

That's why its painful to learn this is probably the weakest incarnation of the character, mainly because he's lacking his Wind Teleport move. This Special has always been a staple with Kung Lao, since it could be used to craft killer kombos and throw off opponents.

In exchange, he has two new Specials, the Shaolin Shimmy and the Kung-Kussion. (Great name). These moves are decent, but don't offer the same variety as his Wind Teleport. (Weirdly, this Special has been assigned to his Kameo counterpart).

Kung Lao still has some neat punch kombos and works well with Kameos, especially when the opposition is cornered. With his Hat Toss and Dive Kick still present, Kung Lao has enough to keep his fanbase satiated.
