Mortal Kombat 10: 10 Awesome Game Modes That Must Return
8. Puzzle Kombat
It can't be full-on aggression all the time, that would just be exhausting. Sometimes we need a bit of respite from the brutality. NetherRealm came up with a quirky concept for Mortal Kombat: Deception to help alleviate the pressures of non-stop violence and lighten the mood somewhat - the Super Puzzle Fighter-inspired Puzzle Kombat mode. You can call it a silly throw-away idea, but it was a surprisingly engaging and well executed little puzzler that deserves its place on the Mortal Kombat 10 roster. Beyond just an additional game mode, Puzzle Kombat was more like an entirely new game within a game, about as far removed from the usual Mortal Kombat model as is possible. Blatantly derivative of Capcom's cute 'n clever Street Fighter puzzler, Puzzle Kombat puts caricatures of a number of MK characters in a one-on-one game of Death-Tetris. Its not as complex (or as addictive) as the games on which it is based, but it served its purpose as a change of pace from the core game. The chances are slim that we'll see something of the sort in Mortal Kombat 10, but a Puzzle Kombat variant would be a worthy (if somewhat cheesy) distraction.
Game-obsessed since the moment I could twiddle both thumbs independently. Equally enthralled by all the genres of music that your parents warned you about.
