For more casual fans, you'll remember Blaze from Deadly Alliance, before becoming one of the final bosses of Armageddon.
However, did you know that he's got some roots in the earlier games? Cast your mind back (or use modern technology, whichever is easiest) and you'll see that Blaze was one of the unnamed fighters in the background of the Pit II stage of Mortal Kombat 2.
Whether it was that bridge he was captured on or elsewhere, he was bound and tasked with protecting the last Great Dragon Egg, before being freed and resume his mission of observing the strength of all the fighters in the realm(s).
Given that he's a bulky mass of fire elemental, he could fill the void left by Ferra/Torr in the roster, not necessarily needing an inclusion in the story. Or a small, annoying hype man perched on his shoulders.
