Mortal Kombat 11 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
5. Awesome New Characters & A Perfect Roster
Speaking of the story, we’ve got three fantastic new characters, and perfect redesigns/evolutions of the remaining Kombat Kids. Kung Jin and Takeda aren't mentioned outside the latter apparently dating Jacqui Briggs, but Cassie Cage and Briggs herself both fit the bill perfectly. For the real newcomers there’s the Elder God Cetrion, Shao Kahn’s six-armed thief The Kollector, non-playable wielder of time Kronika, and her henchman, Geras.
The latter has the ability to shave seconds off the match timer (a brutally hard way to lose a match online, by the way), and minus The Kollector’s fatality being a carbon copy of Mileena’s from MK 10, all of these guys are brilliant fun to explore. Even Cetrion’s planet-sized fatality made her look a bit TOO powerful, but it’s never used in the story, and works as her “showing off” in the context of a tournament victory.
From a pure art direction and character design standpoint, NetherRealm keeping the likes of D’Vorah, Kotal Kahn and Erron Black, then adding these guys, makes for one hell of a powerful roster.
