Johnny Cage started out as a cocky and vain actor from Hollywood who was eager to prove himself in the tournament. He'd serve as the comic relief for the games until a series of events forced him to step up and mature in Mortal Kombat X.

In the tenth entry, Cage became Raiden's champion in the absence of heroes like Liu Kang and Kung Lao who lost their lives in the previous title. The actor would fulfill his responsibilities and even defeat the Elder God, Shinnok during the first Netherrealm invasion.

After the game's 25-year time skip, Johnny would be seen as a loving and supportive father to Cassie while being a wise mentor for the next generation of heroes.

But in Mortal Kombat 11, the actor was forced to deal with his younger self due to the story bringing in past versions of characters. This results in hilarity as the elder Cage finally sees how annoying he was during his youth and at the same time, showed players how far he had grown throughout the years. Thankfully, the younger Johnny would be taught a lesson in humility by his older self and got better near the end of the game.
