Mortal Kombat: EVERY Game Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Mortal Kombat: Deception
Since fans were discontented by the lack of finishing moves in the previous game, Deception gave every character two Fatalities as well as a brand-new finisher called the Hara-Kiri. With refined controls, mini-games, and the return of fan-favourites like Mileena and Baraka, Deception felt like a more polished version of Deadly Alliance.
Having said that, Deception has the worst roster in the entire franchise. Of the nine new characters the game introduced, ZERO of them have returned as playable characters in the sequels apart from MK: Armageddon.
Fighters like Kira, Dairou, and Kobra are so bland, you wonder why the developing team spent so much time animating and motion-capturing for them. Also, the final boss, Onaga, was bafflingly anticlimactic considering the intro scene and the previous game built him up as an unstoppable adversary.
Despite these blunders, Deception does stand out because of its daunting Konquest Mode, which allowed the player to explore the Mortal Kombat world(s) for the first time. Because you could actually talk to kombatants and travel to other dimensions, it helped expand the characters and the MK multiverse in a way gamers had never seen at the time.
