Mortal Kombat: EVERY Game Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Mortal Kombat II
As influential as Mortal Kombat was, its sequel was the one that truly dominated the arcades. Although the SNES version of the first game had the violence toned down and the Genesis version hid the gore behind a code, the bloodshed in MKII was on full-display from the get-go.
Not only that, the sequel took every positive factor of the original and expanded on it. With a more diverse roster, sharper graphics, tighter controls, more Easter eggs, the TOASTY guy, and more dismemberments than one can count, MKII surpassed its predecessor in every way.
Being nearly three decades old, you may assume MKII would no longer stand the test of time. On the contrary, it holds up better than some of the 3D entries in the franchise. Even though the most recent games are on the most advanced consoles possible, they still suffer from bugs. Despite coming out 27 years ago, Mortal Kombat II still has smooth and crisp glitch-free gameplay. Not only is it unmistakably the stand-out 2D game of the franchise, Mortal Kombat II is one of the best fighting games of its generation.
