Mortal Kombat: Every Game Ranked From Worst To Best

4. Mortal Kombat X

NetherRealm

Mortal Kombat X was released in 2015 and took the series 25 years forward. With most of Earthrealm's heroes dead by the end of Mortal Kombat (2011), a new generation of fighters arrived to take their place, like Cassie Cage and the new ruler of Outworld, Kotal Kahn.

The game introduced the variation system, where players could pick 3 styles per character - each with unique special moves and abilities.

One variation of Scorpion focused on melee weapons, while another was projectile-based. MKX also had stage interactables, a feature introduced in Injustice: Gods Among Us.

This allowed for more mayhem across the battlefield and more brutal ways to hurt your opponents. Speaking of brutal, Brutalities made a return, but this time, they were revamped into moves that could be performed before the end of the match. In fact, some Brutalities could be more visceral than the Fatalities themselves.

Nowadays, lots of MKX fans prefer the game for its fast-paced combat which allowed for some crazy combo combinations. Alongside beloved DLC additions such as Jason Voorhees and the Predator, Mortal Kombat X succeeded in continuing the winning streak started by Mortal Kombat (2011).
