9. Cole's Transformation - The Great Kung Lao?

Okay, let's talk about Cole.

As mentioned he's a new character, and essentially who the audience will be embodying as we journey around this theme park of severed heads and lightning wizards.

The biggest standout to me though, is multiple shots of what must be a mid/third-act Cole, having undergone some kind of transformation. We see him crouching during the final Scorpion/Sub-Zero fight, with a top-half that's notably a different colour, and when Goro leaps into frame earlier, that same "golden warrior" is on the receiving end.

The answer? Cole is the latest reincarnation of The Great Kung Lao - the "mythical being" present in Sonya's mural. The giveaway is a red waistband the pair share, alongside dark pants with a red stripe down one side - something easily visible on repeat viewings.

Early descriptions of the film talked about Cole "awakening" his innate power while taking part in the tournament, too. Could it be reinforced skin or a general exoskeleton that beefs up existing abilities?
