Mortal Kombat: Ranking Every Guest Character

Freddy vs. Jason, Kratos vs... a Xenomorph?

What's interesting about guest characters in Mortal Kombat, is that even though they've become rather synonymous with each other, it wasn't until the most recent MK game that they became a robust feature.

See, the first Mortal Kombat to feature guest characters was Kratos in Mortal Kombat (2011) - although he was a PlayStation exclusive. Prior to that, we got Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe, which didn't technically feature any guest characters, but was chock full of DC superheroes, from Batman to Captain Marvel. As that was its own release, don't expect any of those to pop up here.

All of which is a long-winded way of saying, guest characters in Mortal Kombat haven't been around as long as you may imagine, and there probably haven't been as many as you think. While the list may be small, it's chock-full of awesome characters that fleshed out the roster, while ripping the flesh off other combatants.

As we gear up for another year of Mortal Kombat goodness, with the impending release of MK11, it's time to reflect on the horrors that have come before.

6. Kratos

Most people may forget that Kratos was ever in a Mortal Kombat game but, as mentioned in the intro, he was actually the very first guest character.

The Kratos that appeared in 2011's Mortal Kombat is very different to the one we're now familiar with; remove the beard, lean-out the body, and add a few hundred decibels to his yell, and you're in the ballpark. Kratos in MK9 was a force to be reckoned with, bringing with him the weapons he accrued throughout the God of War series; the Blades of Exile, Apollo's Bow, Head of Helios, Golden Fleece, and the rage of the Gods. Then there's the Fatality, which sees Kratos use the massive Blade of Olympus to slice an opponent in half.

If Kratos were to appear as a guest character in Mortal Kombat now, it would be far more exciting, as his popularity has sky-rocketed and he would wield the Leviathan Axe, and perhaps even have Atreus as an assist character. That said, Kratos' initial appearance was still a blast, just not compared to the rest on this list.
