Mortal Kombat X: 10 Huge Problems Nobody Wants To Admit

1. Your Options For Finishers Get Old, Fast

Some of the new fatalities are spectacular, whereas others well - have you seen the likes of Kano's knife-throw or Raiden's conduit staff? They're indicative of moves just not having the requisite punch to get away from you repeating the others too much. In the lead-up to release Ed Boon implied the team had essentially created lifelike biologically-accurate models of their characters in everything from flesh to muscle tissue and bone structure - therefore it was just a case of slicing them six ways from Sunday and seeing what happened. Come the final game though and things like Scorpion's head-slice, Ferra/Torr's body-rip or Mileena's chest-feast play out exactly the same way every time - rather than have the victim's body react to a perfected physics model and the randomness therein. It has its benefits of course, but for the most part it feels more like you're triggering a cutscene instead of being a natural extension of your moveset. Brutalities too can be extremely finicky to pull off, with certain requirements like landing a particular move five times in a match taking away from what would otherwise make for an enjoyable fight. Most of the time they're not all that brutal or satisfying either, as when you look back on the trailer that announced them and see Kung Lao firing off a million punches to his opponent's face in quick succession, it gave off the impression that every single one was going to be as suitably over-the-top - but that's just not the case.
