8. Stryker

Stryker tends to get a lot of hate from the old school crowd - mostly as he was introduced through a godawful sprite in the MK 3 that looked as though he was fighting with a pillow strapped to his stomach. To be fair, MK 3's overhaul of many key characters' appearances has made it the worst-remembered entry next to MK 4, but this whole 'one cop having a bad day' shtick fits perfectly against the creature-feature horrors that usually pad out MK's roster otherwise. Playing and winning as Stryker just felt like a greater accomplishment when you were taking down something as hulking as Goro with a mix of tasers and well-placed pistol shots, and considering MK X has D'Vorah and Ferra/Torr ripe for the head-popping, it's about time he made a return.
