Mortal Kombat X Trailer: 6 Things You Need To Know
2. Visible Damage
Now this is a good one, in fighting games since the first MK, you will spend two to three minutes belting your opponent upside down and it's not until the very end of the fight that there would be any visual indication of the thrashing you've just laid down. It's one of the fallacies that fighting game fans have either never noticed, or if they have, they've just had to learn to live with it. Well it would appear that is no more as Sub Zero starts to look significantly worse for wear by the end of the trailer (decapitation nonwithstanding) and it particularly shows at the end, just before said decapitation. Scorpion grabs him with his chains and smashes Sub Zero head first into the ground, smashing his mask and cowl, allowing us a rare glimpse of Sub Zero's face. Now this could have been something put into the video for effect, but the implication is that as you unleash more and more special moves or devastating attacks, the new game engine will allow for visible damage to appear with costumes breaking, armour collapsing and even clothes ripping as the characters are pummelled into submission. It might sound like a very minor detail to get excited about but as games strive for more realistic graphics and appearances, these things need to be considered and the smallest details can make the biggest difference to your immersion in the game.
