Mortal Kombat X Trailer: 6 Things You Need To Know

3. Broken Bones Still Mean Nothing (But Look Cool)

One of the most impressive parts of NetherRealm's reboot with MK9 were the X-ray shots whereby when an attack would break bones the camera would zoom in on the body part in question, the internal organs would be highlighted and you would see exactly what you had just broken. It could happen to everything in the body from the skull right down to the ankle, and was always highlighted with the most gut wrenching of snap and crack sound effects. It was sometimes a hard feature to watch but more often than not, it was perversely satisfying. Well you should be happy to see that in this trailer, the feature has been brought back for the new game and is bloodier and more painful than ever. It's shown twice in the trailer, with Sub Zero being on the receiving end of both bone-shattering attacks. The first one has Scorpion using his special move that takes him off the right side of the screen and back in on the left with a devastating blow to Sub Zero which zooms in and shows his ribs breaking, then the second follows immediately after as Scorpion kicks down on Sub Zero's knee, breaking his kneecap in a particularly gruesome zoomed in scene. Not that any of it matters, because immediately after this assault, Sub Zero is swinging around on branches, remaining well and truly in the fight. It's a shame that the continuity is perpetually ruined as despite how cool the X-ray bone breaking scenes are, they never have any negative effect on the fighter, save for some health being taken off their bar. Medical science would probably look down upon the idea of a man with a broken kneecap leaping around while fighting a demonic badass in a freezing cold forest... but we're glad that's entirely the point.
