A change which was not part of Erik Boenisch's release, but one which will surely have a big impact on the game regardless, is an overhaul of the player ratings system. 2K15 saw LeBron James score a dominant 98 rating, while his nearest competitor - Kevin Durant - trailed slightly behind on 95. These stats divided opinion, with many fans angry that the pair were propelled to the same level as many of the legendary players included on the game, or even beyond. LeBron's 98 rating seemed particularly excessive, as brilliant a player as he is. Three player ratings from 2K16 have recently been released, and show James to be at a far less imposing 94, Pau Gasol at 86, and Al Horford at 83. The reported reason for this is to give a sense of perspective, bringing the game's legendary players - Jordan, Abdul-Jabbar, Bird et al - up to speed with the modern greats. LeBron will no longer possess a score better than most of the greatest players in NBA history, a sensible decision by the 2K Sports team.
