NBA 2K18 Review: 5 Ups & 2 Downs

2. MyPLAYER Is So Much Fun...

NBA 2K18's demo didn't seem too promising, but once your player joins an actual NBA team, the whole experience is incredibly fun.

There are some ridiculous aspects of the mode, like the fact that DJ - your player's nickname, because he wanted to be, you guessed it, a DJ - lives in an apartment with a basketball court in it, or that he can walk to the basketball arena - which is clearly not taking into account property prices in major American cities. These aspects actually enhance the experience, precisely because the mode does not take itself so seriously as in the past.

You'll be mostly interacting with your agent, Bryan, who isn't all that keen on managing you at first, and Shammy T. Wells, a veteran, who takes you under his wing. The story is simple and, what is most important - it doesn't interfere with your career. As an un-drafted player you can make mistakes and learn at your own pace without the commentators praising you, despite your lacking - hopefully just at the beginning - basketball achievements.

The coolest moment however is when your player walks onto the court for the first time. It's not during a game but a shoot-around before. When taking to the court, the player puts his hands over his head, overwhelmed by the atmosphere, and only then starts to practice.

A small and subtle animation, but one that makes all the difference.
