NBA 2K19 Review: 6 Ups & 2 Downs

1. Takeover

Though unlikely to sell any additional copies of the game on its own, the new Takeover system is a welcome feature that does exactly what you expect, allowing "hot" players to run riot with a series of temporary attribute boosts after strong periods of play.

Each player has their own individual meter. They fill it by making positive on-court contributions, then go nuts, imposing their will on the game in ways that vary greatly depending on their play style.

Triggering Steph Curry's Takeover will see the Warriors' sharpshooter drain buckets from far beyond the three-point line, but won't suddenly transform him into a shot-blocking rim protector. Similarly, wont fix Bin Simmons' wonky shot, but it will take his freakish athleticism and playmaking to the next level, creating new space and opportunities for himself and his teammates.

Takeover succeeded by mirroring real-life hot streaks, but it goes the other way too. String several mistakes together and your character will end up with a dreaded snowflake by his name, turning every pass into a turnover, and shot into a brick. Thus, the system's risks are as pronounced as its potential rewards.
