NBA 2K20: 10 Things We Already Know
2. New Dunks Have Been Mo-Capped
One of the purest joys in any NBA 2K game is dunking the ball. It's another aspect of gameplay that must look fluid, otherwise immersion is ruined and the player is removed from the action on court. Also, nobody wants to be using the same dunk time and time again, and no defender wants to be beaten by the same dribble over and over.
2K want to mix things up on both sides of the ball, and that's why they've been motion capturing some new dunks.
Most of these are one-handed, spectacular skill moves that explode into life as the player with the ball gets closer to the net. If 2K can replicate the explosiveness of the mo-cap artists in the leaked video, then they're onto a winner. This goes back to what Mike Wang was saying about fluidity and smooth animations.
Recycled animations are a constant problem in annual sports games, but it's nice to see 2K want some new ones in 2K20. Unfortunately for them, this repetitive son-of-a-bitch will continue holding R2/RT so he can do that sweet two-handed dunk during every attack.
