NBA 2K21 Review: 4 Ups & 4 Downs

4. Creative Limitations

NBA 2K gameplay director Mike Wang claimed 2K21 cover star's Damian Lillard's biggest request for this year's game was "being able to make an oversized point guard in MyCAREER." Thus, you can now craft an absurdly overpowered 6'8" PG if you so wish. Fun in MyCAREER, but already an over-spammed nightmare in MyPARK.

This is about it as far as innovations in 2K's creative suite go. For the most part, the MyPLAYER creation system is as limited as ever, with curtailed customisation options meaning that no matter how many characters you create, they're all going to posses vague similarities. The inability to uploaded created faces is as odd as the developer's failure to include the option of female MyPLAYERS, despite the WNBA's inclusion.

Players can likely expect these things to be improved upon with the next-gen version. Regardless, it's a clear current-gen limitation. A more robust system would unquestionably help extend 2K21's appeal for those wishing to put their own stamp on it.
