Netflix's Castlevania Reactions: 5 Things You Need To Know

3. The Characters

Castlevania Trevor Belmont

Castlevania has a relatively small cast, which leaves plenty of room for them to develop. Although the first season was too short to see any real any character other than Trevor Belmont grow, they did a relatively good job considering the limited amount of screen time they had to play around with.

All the major characters seem to have been set up. One or two arrive too late to do much but look good, but their strengths, abilities, and overarching motives are made clear.

The series revolves around reluctant hero Trevor Belmont, the last, alcoholic son of the House of Belmont, famed for their vampire hunting. Richard Armitage does a fantastic job as Trevor, capturing the sarcasm and dark humour of a character that really doesn't want to be there.

Midway through the season we are introduced to Sypha, both a magical badass and delightful character. She serves as an excellent foil to Trevor Belmont, through her self-determination and willingness to help others.

Dracula is supposed to be the antagonist of the series, though he mainly instigates the proceedings and nothing more. His motives are understandable and it gives the character some depth to build from.

The Church is set up as antagonistic to both Belmont and Dracula himself, making this somewhat appropriate. However, even when they do help Trevor Belmont, they end up being mostly ignored.

Hopefully the second season will improve on this by making the Church appear less stereotypically evil, but everything for the main characters is in place at this point.

They don't let me write here anymore. I think they were put off by my handlebar moustache.
