Nintendo NX: 10 Wishlist Rumours That Must Come True

6. The Controller Isn't A '3DS Replacement' - Focused On Apps Instead

"The controller is sort of a game system in its own, but it's not a replacement for the 3DS. It works like a companion app on a phone, and you can take it with you and control some things from your game, like how the VMU on the Dreamcast let you take a Chao with you and train it [...] It's about the size of the bottom half of a 3DS XL."

Such was another comment taken from the aforementioned Redditor, stimpak_vendor, as immediately this makes me think of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver's integration of the Pokéwalker; a small Tamagotchi-type device that let you transfer a Pokémon onto it, before levelling up by walking around.

Maybe, maybe Nintendo are about to adapt this to many more of their IPs, as if stimpak is correct, the controller/handheld rumours from years gone by would still be right - as would the notion that 3DS owners having to worry about.

The jury's out on just how games like Zelda or Mario could have siphoned-off 'games' that are both separate from your main progression and worthwhile in their own right, but if Nintendo can pull this together, they'd create a non-stop gameplay loop that would have hardcore fans immersed for weeks.
