Nintendo NX: 10 Wishlist Rumours That Must Come True

4. Wii U Backwards Compatibility WITHOUT The GamePad

Although it's actually a pretty remarkable device, simply because of Nintendo's Swiss Army Knife-approach to features and functionality, the all-signing, all-dancing Wii U Gamepad is still a cumbersome and unwieldy thing, especially after a few hours.

It marked one of the biggest issues with why the console didn't take off like its Wiimote-waggling parent, but also presents a problem for the NX and Nintendo's company philosophy. Case in point: If the NX is going to remain true to backwards compatibility and still please a wider audience, it needs to play Wii U games... without the pad they were designed for.

This could easily factor into the morphable screen tech we discussed earlier, as any touch screen functionality would be totally possible on a smooth surface, the requisite 'buttons' emerging as and when you need them, but it still needs to be addressed in full.

Answers in the comments as to how the hell Nintendo can even hope to make this work - or whether they'll repeat history and the Gamepad will be a supported accessory like GameCube controllers were to the Wii and Wii U.
