It may sound like the ultimate Nintendo fanboy plea, but news emerged suggesting that Nintendo will be dropping the optical drive from the NX console, according to a patent filed by the company earlier this year. It has led to widespread debate over whether Nintendo could possibly make the move back to cartridges. They may not be the big, bulky, glorious N64 cartridges from back in the day, but a slimmer version could be an option, though there'd be worries over how much information could be carried and how much the technology would cost. If the patent does indeed transpire to be for the NX, the other alternative to cartridges would be a switch to download-only games, though that would surely alienate fans who may already be on the verge of letting go of Nintendo after the Wii U debacle.
