4. It's Going To Be Dedicated To Gaming

Nintendo has never been one to chase the whole 'multimedia box' thing. No Nintendo system has ever had the capacity to play DVDs or Blu-rays, and their non-gaming features tend to be fairly basic.

Can you imagine getting adverts for new Netflix shows or film releases popping up on the Wii U? Of course not. Instead, you get an adorable gathering of Miis from around the world, and player messages about the Nintendo games they're currently playing. It's all very Nintendo and it's all very gaming-centric. Which is great, because it seems more and more that Sony and Microsoft are spending a lot of time concerned over how best to make their consoles do every little thing under the sun. By focusing all of their development time and resources on gaming, Nintendo can hone and refine that experience. It's no coincidence that the Wii U is the only current-gen console with an uncomplicated relationship with backwards compatibility €“ it's because Nintendo put the time and effort into focusing on what's actually important: Gaming.
