Nintendo NX: 8 Rumours That Would Dominate Xbox One & PS4
1. It Will Revive Older, Beloved Franchises
Where is Metroid? F-Zero? EarthBound? Lucrative franchises (and franchises that fans are crying out for) that appear to have disappeared entirely. While rumours have been circulating about a new Metroid title for a while now, fans were recently insulted at 2015's E3 with the reveal of Metroid Prime: Federation Force, a game set in the Metroid universe that doesn't star Samus but instead features a bunch of Marines playing Space Football.
Recently, Miyamoto talked about a new, more aggressive use of intellectual property. We are going to be far more aggressive in using our IP, and not just stop with licensing, as in the past. The first example is Amiibo. We want our IP to better reach more children, and smart devices is just one vehicle. So what does this mean for old franchises? In essence, Nintendo no longer wants to let its IP sit around doing nothing when it could be making money. The phenomenal success of the Amiibo series has shown Nintendo through cold, hard cash that there is still a massive hunger for some of its forgotten characters. When the NX finally releases, expect to see some of your old favourites show up too.
