That word on Metroid Prime 4 has gone colder than Phendrana Drifts doesn't mean Nintendo aren't liable to suddenly drop it in the middle of next year.

First announced at E3 2017, development on Samus' long-awaited return hit a snag when Bandai Namco's efforts with the IP failed to meet Nintendo's standards. Production restarted in 2018 under the care of Retro Studios, something of an ironic reversal of the first game's troubled production, which saw Nintendo force the Texan devs to start from scratch themselves. Given the magnificent original trio they went on to produce, we'd say Metroid Prime 4 is now in safe hands.

Admittedly, chances of a 2021 release fall into the 'no way, Norfair' category, but you just never know with a capricious Nintendo and their recondite sleeves.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
