Nintendo Switch: 15 GameCube Games That Must Be On Virtual Console
10. Super Monkey Ball
Simple but oh-so highly addictive, this 2001 game from SEGA showed their arcade heritage mixed with Nintendo’s cutesy exterior through and through. A perfect marriage of software developers’ minds.
You played as a monkey inside a capsule-toy style ball. You were put onto colourful platforms suspended thousands of metres in the air. Some were maze-like. Others were razor-thin courses. At times you’d have to bounce your way through edges and gaps.
A simple ribbon gate was your finish line and the more bananas you collected on the way there, the better. This was a modern take on Marble Madness and had all of that game’s fiendish addictiveness too.
Local multiplayer options were also an absolute riot as you did things like race and box your opponents – the latter sporting a huge boxing glove somehow attached to your monkey (ball). Other games had you playing billiards with other monkey balls (no pun intended). A definite classic that could only come from fine minds at Nintendo and SEGA.
