Nintendo Switch 2020 Wish List: 10 Things We Need To See
6. More Same Screen Multiplayer
Multiplayer gaming has migrated online, and that has its ups and downs. Being able to find a game any time of day is great, of course, but we’ve all experienced shonky connections, rage quits, and abusive competitors.
The latter two issues can spring up just as often when playing with friends or family, but it’s much more fun to see your mate storm out of the room after a crushing defeat than it is some kid from across the world. Nintendo used to have the in-room multiplayer industry on lock, but not since the days of the Wii, perhaps, have they brought out a classic of the genre. The ease with which a few people can all join in on the switch means it’s a perfect console to develop such games for, but so far, the odd Mario title aside, there seems to have been more of a focus on adding cursory co-op features (no one wants to play as Cappy, Nintendo).
The single joy cons aren’t the most comfortable way to play unless you have very small hands, but it would be great to see Nintendo work around these barriers and reassert their status as kings of the party game. A Goldeneye remaster is perhaps fanciful, but would be amazing.
