Nintendo Switch Pokémon Stars Wishlist: 8 Things We Want To See

8. Make The Main Character More Expressive

Probably the single weakest part of the Pokemon video game series is how homogenized the stories are.

While other long-running series like Legend of Zelda and Resident Evil have delivered numerous memorable moments over the years, Pokemon fans oftentimes struggle to name a single gym leader outside of Kanto, never even mind recalling a plot twist.

Sun and Moon did a great job of fixing that. From Guzma going chest-to-chest with Professor Kukui to Lusamine fusing with Nihilego to Lillie symbolically taking off her hat to show that she is done hiding from her mother, this generation dramatically improved the presentation and cinematography of the series, and likely left a much greater impression on players as a result.

The one big problem all this? No matter how scary, intense or infuriating the situation, the player’s avatar only had one reaction; a big, dumb smile.

While this may seem like a small thing, it unquestionably detracts from the gravity of numerous key moments in the game’s story. A little bit more expressiveness would go a long way here, and hopefully Stars can deliver it.
