Nintendo Switch Pokémon Stars Wishlist: 8 Things We Want To See

7. Get The UI Right

You may not have noticed it (though that speaks to its greatness), but Pokemon Sun and Moon has one of the most well-crafted UIs in the history of video games.

A strong interface is a must for any menu-heavy series, and Pokemon has always been solid, easily letting players manage their rosters and find their items without much trouble. Sun and Moon, however, streamlined a number of battle features while making it easier to access “HMs” like Fly and key items like the fishing rod and item finder.

Those tweaks, subtle as they were, helped to create one of the most hassle-free RPG experiences in recent memory. It was the full realization of the series’ core concepts, and a testament to how great the Nintendo 3DS’s two screens screen can be for gamers.

Pokemon Stars is on the Nintendo Switch, by the way, which doesn’t have two screens.

The last traditional Pokemon game that wasn’t on the Nintendo DS platform was 2005’s Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness and, while that was a solid game in its own right, anyone that fires it up will instantly notice how dated the game feels relative to its successors.

Game Freak will need to find a way to keep things intact as it moves from the 3DS to the Switch. If they can’t, Pokemon Stars won’t necessarily be a bad game, but it will definitely be a weaker experience than its sister titles.
