No Man's Sky: 10 Valid Complaints In A Sea Of Hate

2. Action Sequences Are Definitely Over-Simplified

Hello Games

The addition of action-orientated sequences like starship combat or sentinel battles should've been seen as a useful and welcome expansion to an experience that's primarily about exploration and adventure. Sadly, these elements in the game are so overly simplified that they just become another frustration.

With the exception of getting stuck into a battle against the odds when faced with numerous space pirates keen to blast you out of the sky, none of these sequences really offer any real excitement. The combat controls are so basic that there's virtually no strategy other than hammer your weapon's trigger and hope for the best.

Alternative mechanics could easily have served this purpose just as well, and even a turn-based element to add large combat sequences organically into a game that's about items and upgrades would've been an improvement. Instead we're stuck with a system that mostly performs about as well as a late '80s arcade shooter.
