No Man’s Sky: 10 Huge Changes That Finally Make It Worth Playing

2. Portals & Calling Your Ship Anywhere

No Mans Sky Atlas Rises
Hello Games

The last thing from 2016's list of potential features, portals were seen in an earlier version of the game, letting the player warp from one planet to another.

Left out of the finished version, now they're back, and of course, function just as they should.

You'll have to dig out a number of specific glyphs to 'dial' into the portal's interface (literally like a giant dial-a-phone), but once active you can either request the 'address' of your planet (to buddy up with friends), or enter a random sequence and see where it takes you.

Better than that, is the option to call your ship to anywhere you're standing. In the original game and past updates, you still had to either find a marker in the world or construct something to do so, but now, no matter where you are (providing it's not underground), your ship can land right next to you, providing shelter from a storm, or a speedier way to travel.

Overall this makes traversal far more fun and immediate - no more noticing waypoints in the distance and never seeking them out for being too far away. Just hail your ship and get to it.
