Not all gods are created equally: which ones are the best?

Okami is an iconic game that received fantastic reviews upon its release on the PlayStation 2 in 2006. It later received an HD version for the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

The stunning traditional Japanese brushwork visuals featured throughout this sprawling adventure game were something to behold in 2006, and the HD update only makes them more breathtaking. The visuals of this game alone should prove to you how fantastic this game is.

In addition to this, it was an extremely fresh take on the Legend of Zelda style game, featuring various temples that can only be completed once you have obtained the proper abilities and items.

The items normally found in games like that were replaced by thirteen Celestial Brush Gods and the techniques that they teach to the main protagonist of the game, Amaterasu. You start the game with the knowledge of one technique, seeing as you play as the Sun Goddess herself, and must retrieve the other twelve throughout your adventure.

Having so many brush techniques means that some of them are not as useful as others. Here they have been ranked based on the amount of times they are used throughout the game, and whether or not the technique is useful at all.

13. Yomigami: Rejuvenation

Yomigami is the first Celestial Brush God that you meet in the game, taking the form of a dragon looming over a scroll. He gifts you the technique Rejuvenation, allowing you to rebuild things that have been broken down.

This allows you to travel to new parts of the map by fixing bridges, walkways, and a few weapons. While this can be helpful to propel the plot forward, it is definitely the least used brush technique.

Most of the instances where this is used is for side quests or adoration points, which can be helpful at times but not necessary. It is the first brush technique you get because it is the easiest one to understand, allowing the player to get a strong grip on the idea of painting things onto the screen.

In addition, the game, more specifically Issun, will usually give you a big clue as to when you need to use Rejuvenation. On top of all of this, half of the times you need to use this technique happen within the same area in the first section of the game.

This removes the feeling of importance to this brush technique, even leading a lot of players to forget that they have it at all.
