Overwatch: Ranking Every Cinematic Short (So Far)

8. Hero

An exciting, overall hopeful story about old heroes and their effect on the world, this particular cinematic is probably the most reminiscent of a Pixar or Disney film (as most audiences say on first viewing), with an excellent soundtrack and a likeable child protagonist, with gorgeous, colourful visuals that stick in the mind.

This cinematic in particular captures the post-fall of Overwatch world, with gangs in the streets inflicting violence on others and trading heavy weaponry, and the anxieties of raising a child in that kind of an environment.

It also, despite keeping him shrouded in mystery, presents Soldier 76's bitter, vicious, mission-oriented violence, and his ultimate decision to still do what's good, self-sacrificial, and heroic in the end, despite his apparent abandonment of old principles, and his clear determination to complete his mission.

The action here is heart-pounding, with a visually interesting and colourful gang in Los Muertos being taken down with excessive force, and music that punctuates every moment with real weight and emotion, all the way to the Spanish guitar solo at the end.

It's a hopeful, fantastic short centred on how heroism can inspire a new generation, with main character Alejandra providing real heart to the piece.
