Its the heart of the game; the mode where a player can buy and sell footballers. Build a team and bring them through the leagues to be champions of Europe, or South America or Asia and it's still the place to be for PES players. But come on Konami, its the same league as last year. The menus are almost the same, the idea is the same, and there's precious little that is actually new here. There's also a lot of pointless stuff in there. Having to create a manager likeness suggested we'd get to see him on the touchline barking orders, but despite spending twenty minutes or so getting the likeness right they're never actually seen again. What about pre and post-match interviews with this avatar the player meticulously created? What happened to unveiling new signings at a press conference? And then there's the silly little cut scenes that made players feel like part of the club. Even seeing the manager profile ordering players around on the training pitch in the background has disappeared over the years replaced with a shot of the stock stadium used for a players club of choice. In short, Master League needs an enormous overhaul. In PES 2012 it looked like they had started it by adding in purchasing items to improve players, short cut scenes when a player was unhappy and pressure from the chairman to play certain players they liked. This has all gone, replaced with a soulless shell of a game that just expects its fans to play the next game, then the next, then the next with nothing in between. This is the one place FIFA has PES by the neck and one place PES really needs to get right on its next release.

I am a middle aged Yorkshireman obsessed with Bad Religion, The Simpsons, movies and anything to do with gaming. I love everything to do with Final Fantasy, Metal Gear and will hold a discussion with anyone about anything in games.
