One of the best pieces of advice to give any new PES player is that variation is king. Without it, the CPU will become outrageously difficult once they've figured out strategies. That's why those lofted through balls to Aubameyang won't work 10 attempts in.

It's all about experimentation and not being afraid to give something different a bash. Tactical changes from the main menus do work in PES 2019, and they can radically alter what happens on the pitch. Suddenly, a 2-0 half-time deficit can turn into a well-earned 2-2 draw or even a stolen 3-2 win if the tactics stifle and overpower the opposition.

Another thing to note is that the computer will change to meet your alterations too, and this leads to some tense (and epic) back and forth battles. That's real football, and it's exhilarating. Konami, for all their woes with licensing, have crafted a wonderful experience on the park.

Play around with it as much as you like. That in itself is a shrewd tactic.
