PlayStation 4: 10 Latest Announcement Rumours

8. The Price

PS3shop Along with the release date, the price has also been a hot topic of conversation within the PlayStation community. The PlayStation 3 launched at the inordinately priced $650, or £425 in the United Kingdom and EU. However, there have been some reports that the PlayStation 4 could launch at a much cheaper value than its predecessor by the time it finally hits shelves. Some reports suggest it could cost "as little" as $400, which in turn works out to at least £310 in the UK including tax. That's a whole £100 cheaper than the PS3 which is a really big difference. It is suspected that the drop in price is owed largely to the lowering in price of Blu Ray technology, which was one of the reasons why the PS3 was initially so expensive upon release in 2006. The hefty price tag of the console also helped to drive down sales upon release and Sony are keen to avoid a similar outcome with their PS4 by making it more realistically available product.
