PlayStation 4: 10 Things Sony Might Announce On February 20th

1. Blocking Pre-Owned & Ending Backwards Compatibility

ps3 image Lowering the tone of excitement with this prediction, the loss of backward compatibility is arguably something that€™ll be making PlayStation fans groan and mumble about the next generation console for a long time to come. With the trend we€™ve been seeing with the PlayStation 3 for the past few years, it could be a safe bet to assume that backward compatibility will not be featuring in the PlayStation 4. In an effort to save money on hardware production, Sony have slowly phased out the technology which allows backward compatibility for the PlayStation 3. Tied in with profit protection, we could also see Sony announce that pre-owned discs will be unusable with the PlayStation 4. This comes after rumours last week that the next Xbox would require an internet connection to play, as discs would have to be activated with a one-time use code. The repercussions of this decision would be wide-ranging and an utter shame to see implemented in the industry. Only time will tell if Sony will follow in Microsoft€™s footsteps on protecting against second-hand gaming. Do you agree? What predictions do you have for the Future of PlayStation?
