1. No More YLOD
One of the things that we really want Sony to announce most of all is an assurance that the new PlayStation will be built to last. Every single one of you are likely to have seen the image above, the dreaded "Yellow Light of Death", the PlayStation Widow-maker or the "YLOD" for abbreviation purposes. There was an alarming and somewhat dubious rate of hardware-related failures on the PS3 with the console failing to start up and flashing a yellow light. In 2009,
it was reported that the Nintendo Wii was four times more reliable than the PS3, while other claims suspiciously suggested YLOD occurred between 1824 months after purchase, with the standard Sony warranty covering only one year after purchase. Fans then had to pay Sony for a refurbished consoles or spring for a new one, which is absolutely unacceptable. Other alternatives were buying a "slim" model which were less susceptible to the dreaded hardware fault, but Sony need to get it right first time. If we are paying such an inordinate amount on a console, we want guarantees that it will last - and that's something Sony absolutely must commit to on the PlayStation 4.
