PlayStation 4 Announcement: 10 New Features You Should Be Excited About

6599095465990953 Yes, as just about everyone expected, Sony unveiled the PS4 at their PlayStation event in New York tonight (though curiously didn't actually show what the console looked like), causing the Internet to explode in a wave of reactions, and as you can expect from just about any launch, it's a mix of rabid excitement and exasperation at wanting to know more. The months of increasingly ridiculous rumours can finally be put to put to bed, and we can now begin soaking in the wealth of information that Sony doled out at tonight's surprisingly lengthy press conference. The PS4 will launch in "Holiday 2013" (which we can presume to mean November or December), and we have our fingers crossed that this applies to Europe as well as North America and Japan. Above all else, Sony have now thrown down a gauntlet to Microsoft, making it clear how seriously they're going to take the next generation of gaming after their early (and not so early) hiccups with the PS3. Read on and learn about the 10 new features you should be excited about for Sony's PlayStation 4...

10. DualShock 4

Yes, that prototype image leaked online last week was real (mostly). All the prevailing features of the prototype - a touch-pad, share button, a light bar that functions as a player identifier and move-type peripheral, and a headphone jack - appear in the final version. Most surprisingly, despite the rumours that Sony were to retire Dual Shock functionality with their new controller, that has proven completely unfounded, much to our relief. The question remains, however; how much will this controller cost? Given the sheer wealth of tech now bundled into the controller, will it not turn out to be cost-prohibitive to most consumers? I for one cannot imagine seeing this controller selling for the same price as the original PS3 controller, which cost around £35 (and to be honest, an official one isn't much cheaper now).
